Running on Empty by Ross Ching…
I live in Los Angeles. I drive in Los Angeles. I think about traffic a lot in Los Angeles. A few months ago, I discovered Matt Logue’s Empty LA photographs. I didn’t think much about it at the time, but every time I was stuck in rush hour all-hour traffic, I found myself thinking, “What if tomorrow everyone’s car disappeared?” What would that scene look like? How would people react? How quickly would the atmosphere rebound from centuries of fossil fuel emissions?
So I took Matt Logue’s still photography concept and applied it to time lapse. I built a story around the idea of us being shackled to this ball and chain; this love-hate relationship with whom we spend so much time with here in LA. (via)
Los Angeles is a large city-like area surrounding the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Life Is Not A Fairytale exhibit by Tyler Shields… I recently took a long weekend to help an old friend work on his latest exhibit in Los Angeles. My trip began by being picked up at the airport in a Range Rover of blonde strangers starlettes and concluded with a relentless hangover the morning after the opening. Although my contributions were limited to the invitation, a few curational suggestions, light editing and a touch of set up, I’m really glad that I had the opportunity to be part of it again this year.

GPOYW by Morgan Peszko… Things got a little weird in Los Angeles this weekend.
Whenever friends from Los Angeles are in town, I’m always left with a fistful of fresh memories… This weekend was no exception. Saturday morning I woke up fully dressed and face down on my living room floor. If you’re familiar with my humble abode, you probably understand how utterly ridiculous it is that I was too lazy to walk to my bedroom (or at the very least my couch). Adding insult to injury, among my unheard voicemails was one regarding the helicopter that we apparently tried to charter to Atlantic City around 5am… With my workload these days it’s pretty rare that I have time to get belligerent, but Friday night was certainly one for the books. Thanks to everyone who made it possible.
Just landed in Los Angeles. Let the soul sucking commence…
Collision of Zachary Quinto by Tyler Shields… About a month ago, Tyler asked me to design an invite for the launch of his most recent project, and around 5am one morning I finally complied. Soon thereafter, he sat on my couch in New York City and showed me a preview of the set on his laptop. Last week, I flew to Los Angeles and watched him unwrap the set in all of their large format glory.
My favorite part about having creative friends isn’t reading about their triumphs in the tabloids or attending the glitzy events, but watching all of the pieces fit together. It probably sounds cheesy, but it’s really inspiring to watch hard work pay off and even more enjoyable to lend a hand in it. In true Tyler form, you can watch the video of the unveiling process and a few clips of the opening here.
Sorry is the Kool-Aid of human emotions. It’s what you say when you spill a cup of coffee or throw a gutterball when you’re bowling with the girls in the league.
